Restoring Full Power & Replacing a Failing Electrical Service

Restoring Full Power & Replacing a Failing Electrical Service

The homeowner contacted us after experiencing half power throughout the home, a common but serious electrical issue that can cause appliances to malfunction and electronics to be damaged.

Our technician performed a quick but thorough diagnostic and discovered the electrical panels was only delivering proper voltage (120V) on one leg, while the other leg was delivering significantly reduced voltage. This confirmed a failing main breaker and compromised service equipment that needed immediate attention.

We explained the issue clearly to the homeowner and reviewed their options. Due to the condition of the existing equipment, the safest and most reliable solution was to replace the entire electrical service, ensuring proper voltage, safety, and long-term reliability.

🔧 Coordination & Electrical Service Upgrade

Our office coordinated with Alabama Power (APCO) to temporarily disconnect power so the work could be completed safely. While gathering materials, APCO disconnected the service; however, the service wire remained attached to the old pole. We contacted APCO again and had them return to properly remove and relocate the wire so work could continue without delays.

Once everything was cleared, our team:

Replaced the service pole and electrical service equipment

Installed a new main breaker

Added a proper main grounding system to meet current safety standards

Ensured the home was set up correctly for future electrical needs

While on site, we also reviewed the scope of work and materials needed for a future standby generator installation, answering questions and making sure expectations were clear regarding timelines.

⚙️ Power Restoration & Final Steps

As the job was nearing completion, we stayed in close communication with Alabama Power at the Cottondale office to have service restored as quickly as possible. After completing the work, we remained on-site and followed up multiple times with APCO until confirmation was received that power would be restored later that evening.

✅ The Result

✔ Full power safely restored

✔ New, reliable electrical service installed

✔ Proper grounding added for safety and code compliance

✔ Home prepared for future generator installation

This project is a great example of why half-power issues should never be ignored and how proper diagnostics, clear communication, and coordination with the utility company make all the difference.
